This course provides educators with a research-based understanding of early literacy development, focusing on foundational frameworks such as Scarborough’s Reading Rope and the Simple View of Reading. Participants will learn to implement evidence-based strategies for phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and early writing. Emphasizing digital tools and multisensory methods, the course supports diverse learners, including multilingual students and those with reading challenges. Through data-driven instruction, educators will assess student progress, adapt teaching strategies, and utilize formative and summative assessments effectively. The course concludes with a literacy action plan that integrates research-based strategies to enhance student outcomes in grades K-5.
This course is worth 15 PD clock hours or 1 graduate-level credit.
